Fulani Herdsmen Terrorism Creeps into Igbo-Biafra: A Wake-Up Call for the Igbo-Biafra (South-East Region)

By Edoziuno Chukwunonso

The blood of innocent farmers once again stains the soil of the Igbo-Biafra (South-East region), as terror strikes Ikpakpara village in Agamede, Eha-Amufu community of Enugu State. In yet another gruesome and unprovoked attack, heavily armed Fulani herdsmen descended upon the peaceful village, slaughtering defenceless farmers and destroying livelihoods. This is not an isolated event, but a disturbing pattern that reveals a sinister and well-organized plan to occupy the ancestral lands of our people.

These persistent attacks are not mere clashes over grazing routes. They are strategic offensives—state-sponsored, politically shielded, and ideologically driven—following the same blueprint once executed by Usman Dan Fodio during the 19th-century Islamic jihad. But unlike the past, today’s Fulani expansionism is more structured, enjoying backing from the very heart of Nigeria’s power structure, dominated by Fulani elites who control the military, intelligence, and policy-making institutions.

The Call for Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and Secession as a Remedial Process

Shockingly, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, while confirming that the attackers of Eha-Amufu were Fulani herdsmen, deliberately avoided mentioning the word “Fulani” in his official public statement. This omission is not accidental—it reflects a broader pattern of political cowardice and submission to the ruling Fulani-dominated federal establishment. Such silence in the face of terrorism amounts to complicity.

Similarly, the paramount ruler of the Tiv Nation, Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, while addressing the public during a recent presidential visit to Benue State, also failed to directly identify the Fulani perpetrators. Despite describing the crisis accurately as “a calculated, well planned, full-scale genocidal invasion and land grabbing campaign by herder-terrorists and bandits,” the failure to name the Fulani origin of these invaders is part of the same calculated avoidance—appeasing Abuja rather than defending the people.

This presidential visit itself was widely condemned and criticized by survivors and citizens as a political stunt—a campaign rally masquerading as a condolence visit. While bodies were still being buried and tears still flowing, the federal delegation was busy with optics, avoiding accountability and responsibility.

The Expansion of Sharia Law: Demystifying Nigeria’s Unity and Territorial Claims

This silence from both elected leaders and traditional rulers has emboldened the terrorists and endangered the very communities they swore to protect.

What is even more disturbing is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, far from solving the crisis as he promised during his campaign, has continued from where his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, stopped in executing this same Fulani expansionist agenda. Tinubu deceived Nigerians into believing he had a solution to Fulani herdsmen terrorism, going as far as creating a Federal Ministry for Livestock Development, which he claimed would curtail the crisis. However, that ministry has proven to be nothing more than a conduit for looting national resources, while having zero capacity or intention to halt the continuing Fulani occupation of indigenous lands.

This is a betrayal of public trust, and it lays bare the deception of a government that pretends to seek peace while enabling violence.

Let us not forget: during Buhari’s eight-year tenure alone, 63,318 Nigerians were killed in cold blood, according to The Punch newspaper’s editorial records. Many of these lives were lost in attacks traceable to the same Fulani herdsmen and their allied terrorist groups. The current wave of bloodshed in Eha-Amufu follows the same pattern—with no justice, no intervention, and no concern from a government that has clearly chosen a side.

Nigerians who do not know what led to the Biafra War of 1967–70 should study what is happening today before their very eyes. As General Ibrahim Babangida once wrote in his book, when Gowon failed to stop the killing of the Igbo, that was what ignited the Biafra war. It is happening again. And this time, people will not remain silent. People will rise and defend themselves.

IBN and IPINS Condemn General Yakubu Gowon's Hypocritical Revisionism: The Nigerian Civil War Was Fueled by Hatred, Greed, and Cold Calculations—Not National Unity

The Eha-Amufu community, especially in Agamede, has endured repeated waves of bloodshed. From Benue to parts of Enugu, it is evident that the attackers are acting with a clear territorial map. Their consistency is too calculated to be random. It is an organized invasion. And the silence—or rather, complicity—of the Nigerian intelligence and military establishment only confirms this.

We, the Indigenous People of the Igbo Nation for South East Self-Determination (IPINS), view this as a final wake-up call. Our farmers cannot continue to live in fear. Our communities cannot continue to bleed without protection or justice. Our people must mobilize. Our leaders must stop hiding behind cowardly silence. A people who live in fear are already conquered. The time for defense, vigilance, and collective resistance is now.

Nigeria hides under the principle of territorial integrity and non-interference in her internal affairs to perpetuate crime against humanity and ethnic cleansing against the South-East, Igbo population

These killings must stop.

We demand immediate and proactive intervention to protect the people of Eha-Amufu and all other threatened communities. Let this wake-up call ignite a fire of vigilance across the entire Igbo-Biafra region. Let our people remember our history, learn from it, and rise with courage to defend our ancestral land.

No more silence. No more fear.
Enough is enough.
